As a woman who quit her job due to a hacking incident and the biggest group of adult bullies I have ever met, I wanted to start my own business. I have always been business-minded. I actually went to college and am technically four classes away from getting my Bachelor’s in Business in Entrepreneural Studies. I could not pass statistics, so I quit. Go figure. I don’t need a damn diploma for that anyway. However, the problem wasn’t about if I could run a business, it was about which one and how.
I knew I wanted to work for God and save souls for the Kingdom of Heaven. But I am not your average Christian woman. So, I know I don’t appeal to the masses, and that is OK. I am totally fine with that. But, being that I have been a bartender, waitress, esthetician, and pharmacy tech as my main jobs as an adult, working from home, content creation, blogging, and just doing about anything on a computer has been the biggest damn headache.
I was in High School when our family got a computer and was probably one of the last in my grade as I was always behind and wasn’t up to date with the trends as quickly as they came out in the world. In the early 2010’s, when smartphones were booming and everyone was walking around with little computers in their pockets all day every day, I was living in the South single handedly raising two little children alone. I was not paying attention to a thing in the real world. I remember being in middle school and learning how to type. I am really grateful for that because I did learn. Then, in high school I think we did a powerpoint, which I could still do. But, ask me something about Excel Sheets or even how to work my own damn phone, I couldn’t tell you the answer.
I don’t believe there are enough hours in the day to learn everything. And for the love of God, the amount of women that rave over Canva has me puzzled. They must spend eternities on that website or I am just feeling dumb because I want to smash my computer against the wall every time I am on it. I HATE IT! It is NOT beginnner friendly whatsoever. I have been trying to learn AI. By God, with as fast as everything is going, I could watch Youtube videos for the next ten years solid and still not be caught up. WHO THE HELL has this much time on their hands?!
I just in the past year started even using a laptop again because I only scrolled on my phone for the basics, and I just didn’t have a need to be on a computer. As I was trying my hand at making my own shirt designs, I paid for Kittl. And between that and ChatGPT’s image generation, I would really like to know how these people on some of these videos put in their perfectly worded prompt (that I do too) and get some amazing quality images, artwork, and graphics. I have cussed out ChatGPT more times than not and get angry because it does not listen to my commands. It has given me flat out wrong answers that it pulls out of its ass, and I have to yell at it.
The entirety of all these chat bots and image generators are evolving at such a fast speed, I can’t keep up. At one point I was signing up for every damn master class I could find and I was wearing myself out so thin that I was never going to get anything done. I am ADD so mix that in with my low-energy Narcolepsy and I feel like a squirrel in the middle of the road most days. It is tiresome! WHO the hell has fun with all that stuff, I don’t know, because it sure is not me. I had ChatGPT make me an AI image this morning for TikTok and I am not kidding when I say that I went back and forth with the thing for seemingly almost two hours just to get it right!
These tools are just that: tools. They surely do not replace humans. The worst of them all was MANUS AI. I saw another convincing Youtube video about how it can just do anything from the ground up. So, I was convinced and curious. Take my money. I paid for the $20/month tier and wanted it to make me a mini app as it did for the person in the video. In the middle of it, it said I needed to upgrade to the $39/month tier (mind you this is day one, hour one!) so I said OK, and another ten minutes later it said I needed the $60 tier. I said F-IT! Yeah, sorry, this is the language you get. Don’t like it, no one is forcing you to be here. Be gone. I am working on my language thank you very much. But what pissed me off the most is that they charged me the $20 and the $39 in the same day, the full prices of those, not just the difference! And, if I remember correctly, it didn’t say anything about that on the checkout page, but only after I went looking for the rules did I find it in the small print that yes they actually will charge both full price fees in one billing cycle and too bad for you. What a crock of shit! And, I got to pump out the money for the subscriptions before I actually see any ROI.
I admit I have been moving slow. because I have had SO much on my plate. If you only knew. But at least, if you are reading this, then I figured out this son of a bitching website and wordpress blog, and for a totally beginner, I would say I am doing pretty good.
I feel like Brenden Fraser in Encino Man- I am from the freaking Ice Age man and I don’t know how to do all this high tech stuff! But, I am slowly but surely getting there. Pray for me. I know that sounds so dumb because so many people do all their work on their laptops and know every function of every damn app available to them but not me! It’s a whole new world and I am glad I stuck with it even through the annoying parts because here I am, baby! Another super annoying thing is that I wanted to make an Etsy store, and I named it, put my tax info in, was trying to connect it with products to put in my storefront, but as I was connecting my stripe account and learning more about the platform, I had to pay about $30 for a one-time fee and it was only after that that I had realized that Etsy can keep the payments for first time shop owners for over a month, sometimes longer. That would mean I would need to have a buffer in my bank account to pay for any print on demand products, and when I tell ya I’m living on a budget, I mean that. So, I chucked the $30 bucks up to a loss and went with somewhere else. I understand that it takes money to make money, but some of us just aren’t working with much. So if you happen to be broke like me, I suggest Fouthwall. It’s free to make 50 products and the money goes right to Fourthwall and they take their cut, print, package and ship the item, and send you the profit once a month. It can’t get much better than that! Their customer service is amazing and they are always friendly and helpful. So, at least I found a solution to having to have a couple hundred dollar or more buffer. Rant Over. Until Next Time…
