This world has become too cold.
As I see each generation declining, I really sit here and wonder what my great grandma thought about my generation. It seems like chivalry really is dead. I am a damn woman and I always try to open doors for people and I can’t tell you how many times, especially disabled people, say that no one holds doors open anymore. That is so sad to me. Have we all grown so cold that we lost touch with humanity? It is a sickness, and it’s contagious. I have my favorite homeless guy in my area who lives near a bridge and camps out behind a church. He is the only homeless person I have ever seen to not hold up a sign. I have stopped and talked or prayed with him many times, or helped him out here and there. And, I recently found out that my area had passed a law to make it illegal for people to camp on city property. I understand that no city wants their own version of Skid Row. But, where is that poor guy going to go if he gets ticketed and kicked off the property? And, of course he would have no money to pay it. Mental hospitals don’t serve a purpose except keeping you locked up in 4 walls.
There is no real counseling there or actual transformative help. I’ve been to them plenty of times. And, don’t even get me started on how pissed I am that a woman in my area stabbed her daughter (literally) in the back and killed her, and they didn’t press charges on her. But someone who sold weed a decade or two ago before it became more accepted is still sitting in prison for it. Make it make sense!! And I see people online having zero remorse for addicts who overdose. Do you think people choose to be in that situation? Addiction is a ball and chain no one signs up for. Sure, I suppose if one chooses to try a drug for the first time it is a choice, and it seems that we (as an ex-addict) always say we can stop when we want to, until we actually try and stop and realize how it seems impossible to stop! I just wish, in general, there was more compassion for people struggling, whether that be mental health, physical health, chronic conditions, depression, or back to the poor disabled people trying to open a damn heavy office door! Reach out and help if you can! I remember at Sam’s Club, I grabbed a case of water for an older woman and she asked me why I helped her. The answer was simple. I said, “Because when I am your age I hope someone helps me!” If you have never experienced it, you really do not have room to have an opinion about it, because you do not know what it is like, but, sooner or later, we will be the ones hoping someone opens the door for us.
